Next scheduled trip is Sat 9/26
Swell is up, Captain is going surfing Friday 9/25 and will be back the following day 9/26.
1st trek out to the Bluefin Tuna grounds.
Today’s charter began at 5:00am and the first thing on the agenda was to check our close grounds early. We had no takers. Next we headed to the weather buoy area which had a good temperature break but no life and windy conditions. Our return to the inside found us acres of jumpers and working…
5 nice Lingcod + assortment of 50 Rockfish
Our charter enjoyed beautiful weather on a flat and sunny day while landing 50 Jumbo Blue, Black, Brown and Vermilion Rockfish upto 4lbs. They also had a great time using live bait to land 5 nice Lings from 8-14lbs. The water was crystal clear so we broke out the ultra light gear to reflect the…
8 Lingcod + limits of Blue Rockfish
This morning our group of 6 ventured West of Santa Cruz and had a great time boating limits of mostly Blues upto 2lbs along with landing 8 beautiful Lingcod upto 10lbs. It was a sunny day with a light breeze. The water was a nice 62′ with a steady good drift.
Those damn winds!
Lots of Tuna scuttle butt out there in sport fishing land but instead of continually standing on my soap box with no new news, after today I will only update once something becomes substantial. The grounds stay unwelcoming as winds continue to play strong from all sides with 25 knots in the equation. The good news is that we know the fish are out there and will be attempting to reach them through October. And so I am confident once we wait out these seas we will be rewarded with some beautiful sashimi. We appreciate your patience with this complex fishery.
Sloppy conditions remain on Bluefin Tuna grounds.
Unpredictable seas with swirling winds are keeping us and others off the Tuna grounds. Our holding pattern remains in effect.
Standby mode remains for Bluefin Tuna.
There were no boats that ventured out to the Tuna grounds today as winds were blowing at 25 knots. This simply means that we remain in standby mode. Once weather becomes a little more inviting out there we may do an experiential run and would open this up to anglers. Information will be updated as we receive it. We do have the boat available for a Lingcod/Rockfish trip tomorrow.
4 Lingcod + limits of Black & Vermilion Rockfish
Today our charter of 4 headed to the lighthouse where they boated limits of Black and Vermilion Rockfish from 2-4 lbs. Additionally 4 nice Lingcod to 9lbs were landed. The weather was overcast with a light breeze and slight lump in the seas.
Bluefin Tuna today 28 miles!
There were Bluefin Tuna landed today 28 miles! If reports stay consistent, we will be running Sunday. Weather looks to be up on Monday increasing on Tuesday. Depending on weather, location and counts we may run Monday. Safety always will remain first and foremost our priority but a little bumpy ride will not keep us…
Evening trip producing rockfish limits
Our evening trip yielded limits for 4 anglers of Blacks, Yellowtail and Vermilion rockfish to 2-3 lbs. It was a nice evening with a warm off shore breeze & flat calm sea.
1 Lingcod + limits of Rockfish to 6lbs
Our 6 anglers had to search for decent sized fish today. Our slow start began to pay off around 10:30, as we started bringing in the larger sized Rockfish. We ended our hunt with limits of good sized Blacks, Blues and Vermilion rockfish from 2-6lbs. Our single Lingcod was a 7lber. The ocean was lumpy with a moderate sea. Clear sky and cool water of 55′.
5 Lingcod + Limits of Rockfish!
What a difference a day makes! Our day started out relatively calm but after our first drift the sea turned confused and uncomfortable with a NW wind battling a South swell. Despite our discombobulated sea we were able to boat limits of Black, Blue and Vermilion Rockfish 2-5 lbs and landed 5 Lingcod 6-9 lbs.
