Fishing Report

Plenty of live bait still around!

Our fishing lately has kept us concentrating on the Lingcod and Rockfish. Conditions have been very good considering the forecast with sunny days and light winds dabbling with small seas and swells. There is still plenty of live bait around which is proving Lingcod a good bet on most days. We’ve been averaging a Lingcod…

Limits of Rockfish continue.

Our private charter had a slow start but found willing rockfish in the shallows of Natural Bridges. Our day included limits for all, including the crew of Blacks, Blues and Copper Rockfish from 1-3lbs.  Conditions were lumpy in the morning but by mid day it was calm with no breeze. Cold in the morning, warming to 65 by afternoon. Sea temp is at 55′. Tuesday and Wednesday look good for fishing this week as well as a good swell window for a Mavericks run may in order. Stay tuned.

Quality limits of Rockfish.

Our family of 6 anglers boated quality limits of Black, Blue and Vermilion Rockfish to 5lbs along with a nice keeper Lingcod.  Conditions were pretty chilly in the wee morn but warmed up nicely by noon. Water was was 53′ with an air of 60′.

Lingcod heating up, Cabezone…

Our charter of 5 headed out to Natural Bridges after securing our live mackerel.  We ended up boating 17 Lingcod upto 10lbs, 11 were kept, we kept 1/2 limits of rockfish upto 3lbs and there was a 5lb Cabezone. The weather was absolutely gorgeous; sunny with a light breeze, perfect drift and visibility. Air was…

Bonito changes to Barracuda!

Beautiful Fall weather with acres of whales and birds feeding on tons of squid.  Our charter headed out searching for Bonito Tuna but found jumbo Barracuda instead. After 3 hookups we ended with 2 Barracuda upto 12lbs. It was a sunny calm day with an air of 65′ & a light off shore breeze in…

Temporary closure of sport crab but Lingcod, Bonito and Bluefin Tuna are Ready to Play!.

With these great ocean conditions we have been able to fish where ever and as long as we want lately. The offshore waters have changed but there are still some Bluefin Tuna out there. Our Charter gave a half day try for them with little results. We switched to Lingcod at noon and had limits…

Stayed close to shore, Bluefin tuna still here.

We took a group of junior anglers out for a trip and conditions were a little grumpy and foggy.  While chasing birds and whales we looked for fish but little sour bellies kept us close to shore. Rockfishing was slow but we still managed to boat 20 blue rockfish from 2-3 lbs. The Bluefin grounds appear to still hold some fish and we will start running some trips that direction probably Thursday or Friday, weather permitting..

Bluefin off, Bonito tuna and Skipjack tuna on..

Our last two charters have shown few signs and provided no results on our Bluefin Tuna grounds. We are now shifting our attention temporarily to the Bonito tuna and skipjack tuna. Running these charters combined with a livebait lingcod trip provides a fun and exciting alternative. We are offering these trips right now from 7:00am-2:00pm…

Bluefin Tuna grounds’ weather turns..

Our Bluefin tuna charter headed to the grounds after making bait but were startled to find 10 knots of wind by 8:30. Seas were doable at first but quickly deteriorated to unpleasant.  Our seasoned tough group stuck it out with a few shark bites through out the day. As it became obvious the weather was just going to continue to get more nasty and the Bluefin just as elusive we pulled the plug and headed back in.  At the time of our executive decision (3:00pm) it was blowing 25′  with a strong south combined with a north west swell and confused sea, it just seemed like the logical thing to do.

Our Lingcod charter decided to hit the Bluefin!

At the eleventh hour our group made the wise decision to make the switch from Lingcod to Bluefin tuna. We proceeded to make our barrel of mackerel and had our first Tuna hookup within 5 minutes of reaching our grounds. We fought the fish for 1/2 hour but pulled the hook next to the boat….

Bluefin Tuna action continues with 8 hookups-6 landed!

These guys are having a blast today and can you believe a few of them have never been deep sea fishing let alone Bluefin tuna fishing before!!! We headed out at 7:00 and found a small patch of mackerel which we made for bait and then headed off shore over rolly seas towards our tuna…
