Weather keeping us grounded this week.
Weather looks to be keeping us grounded this week which seems like a perfect time for a haul on our commercial sister vessel the Lauren Rose. We’ve got commercial crab starting November 15th. Our next scheduled charter is Friday 10/23.
Slow Bluefin Tuna day turns wide open!
Our charter headed north towards Davenport with flat calm seas. While we saw a few whales we had a pretty slow morning on the fishing front, then around 4:00pm the wind picked up and the Bluefin bite turned wide open! We hooked four fish, landing three to 50lbs.
Slow day for Bluefin, amazing day for whale show
We had a little trouble making bait in the morning as it wasn’t in our regular spot, done by 8:00, got to our grounds by 8:30. Once there we were in a three mile wide area stock full of whales, birds, dolphins, seals and sharks along with a random tuna or two. Honestly, pretty boring…
Bluefin Tuna remain
Gorgeous day on the water today! We made quick bait and got to the grounds early. While dodging fleets of boats, we found a clearing and hooked up two bluefin landing one 45lb and got chewed off by another. It was flat and glassy all day. Water was 63′ with an air of 70′. Lots…
Bluefin Tuna showing good signs
Despite tough weather the Bluefin move closer and are being caught in good numbers. We will be running trips and having a good time all week so stay turned and give me a call if you want to join the fun.
Bluefin Tuna takes a breather..
We’ve had a blast the last couple weeks playing with these Bluefin so I gotta admit we are a little sad to see it slow. Are they gone? Well only time and our reports will tell but I’m going to be an optimist and assume they are taking a break for a couple days. What…
Slow day on the Bluefin Tuna grounds..
Plenty of fish out there today just none landed in the boats today. Our group had to head in early today, we’ll see what tomorrow’s trip brings.
Another fun Bluefin Tuna day!
Our tuna charter ventured out around 6:00a and headed North towards Davenport finding some nice flat calm 63′ water. Pretty quickly we landed a 51lb Bluefin and then not a lot of action until later in the day when in the middle of all the jumpers a 47lb decided to land in our boat. Over…
Working those Bluefin Tuna grounds!
Our group of excited Bluefin anglers braved the weather and made it to the Tuna grounds by 7:00a. It was rough as snot but fish were jumping so it didn’t really matter. (Now I personally don’t think snot is very rough, but when the Captain says so, I gotta just go with it.) Our first…
Bluefin Tuna update..
Because these particular Tuna have been rather stubborn on their grounds, today was all about perfecting techniques until something worked. We pulled out our Mexico tactics and that seemed to be the best bet. Our last minute 10:00am charter headed to Davenport where we saw acres of jumpers along with birds, whales and porpoises. Once we arrived it wasn’t long before we boated our first and only Bluefin for the day. A 50 pounder came across our decks and about an hour later we had another hook up but lost it at the boat. The weather was calm all day with overcast skies, an air temp of 70′ and a water temp of 63′.. We will continue our pursuit as long as the weather holds and the Tuna remain. Our next scheduled charter is for nearshore Lingcod on Saturday 10/3…
50lb Bluefin Tuna!
Due to cell reception, I’m getting intermittent and unclear reporting. However, what I do know it that we’ve got a 50lb Bluefin on deck while using live mackerel as bait, the conditions are flat clam. I will report more as it becomes available.
